Netflix has released a new character trailer for Sakamoto Days Season 2, putting three dangerous new additions to the anime directly into the spotlight.
The latest footage introduces Amane Yotsumura, Etsuko Satoda and Satoru Yotsumura ahead of the series’ return in January 2027.
And all three appear destined to make Taro Sakamoto’s increasingly complicated return to the assassin world even more dangerous.
Season 2 moves the story into the JCC — Japan Clear Creation, the specialist academy where assassins are trained.
Sakamoto and Shin infiltrate the school while searching for information about the mysterious X, also known as Slur, whose growing organisation has emerged as one of the greatest threats to the established assassin world.
But the JCC is far more than another location.
It is directly connected to Sakamoto’s past.
The school trained many of the elite killers who now dominate the series, and Season 2 will begin revealing more about the relationships, rivalries and events that shaped Sakamoto long before he abandoned assassination for family life and a neighbourhood convenience store.
The new character trailer begins that process with Amane Yotsumura.
Voiced in Japanese by Kikunosuke Toya, Amane is a talented JCC student carrying an intense hatred towards the Japanese Association of Assassins.
His hostility is not subtle.
The footage presents a young fighter who openly rejects the organisation governing the assassin world and is more than capable of backing up those feelings physically.
Amane fights with a distinctive multi-section staff, giving his action scenes a fluid, unpredictable rhythm that immediately separates him from many of the gunmen and close-quarters fighters already established in the series.
But his surname carries even greater significance.
Amane is the son of Satoru Yotsumura.
And that relationship connects him directly to one of the most important figures in the history of ORDER.
Satoru Yotsumura is a former high-ranking member of the Japanese Association of Assassins and one of the original founders of ORDER, the elite unit responsible for dealing with the most dangerous threats within the assassin world.
He was once one of the most powerful men inside that system.
Something went very wrong.
After an incident in his past, Yotsumura became the target of an execution order and disappeared from the organisation he helped build.
He has been living in hiding ever since.
His history also connects directly to Shishiba, whom Yotsumura once brought into ORDER and trained as his protégé.
That creates one of Season 2’s most promising personal conflicts.
Shishiba is now an established member of ORDER.
His former mentor has become a wanted man.
And Amane carries his own anger towards the organisation responsible for his father’s downfall.
The third new character is Etsuko Satoda, voiced by Misa Watanabe.
Satoda is the longest-serving instructor at JCC and one of the most experienced assassins associated with the school.
More importantly, she once taught Sakamoto himself.
That alone should immediately tell viewers how dangerous she is.
Sakamoto is routinely presented as a near-superhuman assassin whose abilities once made him legendary throughout the criminal underworld.
Satoda belongs to the generation capable of teaching people like him.
She specialises in Aikido and was apparently talented enough during her younger years to be considered for ORDER.
Instead, she chose education.
Her reasoning makes the character particularly interesting.
Rather than joining the organisation’s most elite killers, Satoda believed she could change the assassin world more effectively by training the next generation.
That philosophy gives her a very different position within Sakamoto Days.
Most powerful characters in the series attempt to change their world through violence.
Satoda chose teaching.
The new trailer nevertheless makes it very clear that becoming an instructor did not make her harmless.
Her movements are controlled, economical and devastatingly effective — exactly the kind of understated fighting style expected from someone with decades of experience.
Together, Amane, Satoda and Yotsumura represent three different generations of the assassin world.
Satoda helped train the previous generation.
Yotsumura helped construct one of its most powerful organisations.
Amane has grown up surrounded by the consequences of what that generation created.
Their arrival also fits directly into the larger Season 2 story.
Sakamoto and Shin enter JCC searching for information about X, while ORDER members Nagumo, Shishiba and Osaragi travel to Kyoto on another mission.
That operation leads them into an unexpected attack and pushes the conspiracy surrounding Slur deeper into the organisation.
Meanwhile, the series will finally explore the shared past of Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion Akao and Slur.
That history has gradually become one of the most important mysteries in the anime.
Season 1 established Sakamoto as a man who successfully walked away from an extraordinarily violent life.
Season 2 appears ready to show considerably more of the world he walked away from — and the people who never managed to escape it.
Several familiar characters will also return, including Natsuki Seba and Akira Akao.
Behind the scenes, the anime is undergoing a change in leadership.
Daisuke Nakajima takes over as director for Season 2 after previously working on the series, while Season 1 director Masaki Watanabe remains involved as supervising director.
Taku Kishimoto continues overseeing series composition, Yō Moriyama returns as character designer and Yūki Hayashi provides the music.
TMS Entertainment remains the animation studio.
The adaptation is based on Yuto Suzuki’s hugely successful manga, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2020 and has now surpassed 15 million copies in circulation worldwide.
Its central idea remains wonderfully simple.
Taro Sakamoto was once the most feared hitman alive.
Then he fell in love.
He retired.
He started a family.
He gained weight.
And he opened a convenience store.
Unfortunately, retirement has proven considerably easier to announce than maintain.
Season 2 now pulls him even deeper into the organisation and history he tried to leave behind.
The JCC brings him back to where assassins are created.
Satoda brings him face-to-face with his own training.
Yotsumura exposes the buried history of ORDER.
And Amane represents a new generation already furious about the world those older assassins built.
The new character trailer may be less than a minute long, but it introduces three figures capable of dramatically reshaping the next chapter.
Sakamoto Days Season 2 premieres globally on Netflix in January 2027.
An exact release date has not yet been announced.
