Netflix has released the official trailer for The Perfect Lie, a new Dutch drama thriller in which luxurious dinners, expensive homes and seemingly perfect friendships conceal a dangerous network of secrets.
The seven-part series follows Karen, who moves with her family to Bergen and quickly finds herself welcomed into an exclusive social circle known as the dinner club.
From the outside, its members appear to have everything.
Beautiful homes, successful careers, expensive wine and carefully arranged evenings create the image of an enviable lifestyle built around friendship and privilege.
But the perfection does not last.
The group’s world is shattered when one of their luxurious villas is consumed by fire.
Their friend Evert is killed in the blaze, while his wife and children narrowly survive.
What initially appears to be a devastating tragedy quickly becomes something much more disturbing.
Karen begins to realise that the friendships surrounding her are held together by deception.
Everyone appears to know more than they are willing to admit.
Long-hidden affairs, private resentments, competing loyalties and carefully protected secrets begin surfacing as Karen searches for the truth behind what happened to Evert.
The official trailer leans heavily into that contrast.
Elegant dinner parties and immaculate homes gradually give way to suspicion, confrontation and fear as the group's polished façade begins falling apart.
The closer Karen gets to understanding what happened, the more dangerous her position becomes.
If everyone has something to hide, discovering the truth also means identifying which members of the dinner club are prepared to protect their secrets at any cost.
The Perfect Lie stars Loes Haverkort, Remko Vrijdag, Noortje Herlaar, Edwin Jonker, Rifka Lodeizen, Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen, Charlie-Chan Dagelet and Teun Luijkx.
The series was created by head writer Dorien Goertzen, with Jop Esmeijer serving as co-writer.
Dana Nechushtan and Margien Rogaar direct the series, with Fiction Valley producing.
The story is based on Saskia Noort’s bestselling novel The Dinner Club, but the television adaptation introduces a new narrative structure and a contemporary interpretation of its characters and central mystery.
That approach allows the series to combine domestic drama with psychological suspense.
Rather than immediately revealing who can be trusted, the trailer repeatedly shifts suspicion between members of the group.
Every friendship appears conditional.
Every marriage contains secrets.
And every apparently perfect life seems to hide something considerably darker beneath the surface.
At the centre of it all is Karen, an outsider who initially wants to belong to this privileged new world before gradually discovering how much its members have sacrificed to maintain the illusion surrounding them.
The question is no longer simply who caused the tragedy.
It is how far these people are prepared to go once the lies holding their lives together begin to collapse.
