Netflix has released the official trailer for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, bringing the familiar group of friends back together nearly two decades after audiences first joined their famously complicated marriages.
This time, the reunion comes with a wedding invitation.
Marcus and Angela’s daughter Jasmine is preparing to marry Wesley, bringing the old friends and their now-grown children together for a glamorous destination wedding in Italy.
But anyone familiar with the Why Did I Get Married? films knows that putting this group in one place rarely results in a peaceful vacation.
As the celebrations begin, old tensions quickly return.
The couples have spent years building, repairing and sometimes completely reinventing their relationships, but watching their children make remarkably familiar romantic mistakes forces them to confront the examples they have set.
The new generation may be getting married, but their parents are once again asking some uncomfortable questions about their own relationships.
Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith return as Marcus and Angela, whose famously volatile marriage has provided some of the franchise’s most memorable arguments and reconciliations.
Tyler Perry is back as Terry, while Sharon Leal returns as Dianne. Jill Scott reprises her role as Sheila, with Lamman Rucker returning as Troy and Richard T. Jones once again playing Mike.
The trailer also introduces a major new addition to the group.
Taraji P. Henson joins the franchise as Roselyn, bringing another strong personality into a gathering that was already unlikely to remain drama-free.
The younger generation includes Armani Greer as Jasmine and Everett Osborne as Wesley, alongside Da’Vinchi as Marcus Jr., Laya Deleon Hayes as Kenya, Jaden Michael as T.J., Charles L. Smith II as Denver, Derrick A. King as Nick and Sydney Winbush as Regina.
Their relationships give the film an opportunity to revisit the central idea that has defined the series from the beginning.
Marriage may change over time, but the difficult questions surrounding trust, commitment, communication and expectations rarely disappear completely.
The original Why Did I Get Married? arrived in 2007 and introduced four married couples gathering for their annual relationship retreat.
Its 2010 sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?, reunited the friends for another vacation, this time in the Bahamas, where new revelations once again tested their marriages.
Why Did I Get Married Again? brings many of those characters back at a very different stage of their lives.
They are older, their children are adults and the relationships that once seemed like the centre of their universe now exist alongside an entirely new generation making its own choices.
That shift allows Perry to return to the franchise’s familiar mixture of romantic comedy, friendship and serious relationship drama without simply repeating the circumstances of the earlier films.
The wedding may belong to Jasmine and Wesley, but the trailer makes it clear that they will not be the only couple forced to reconsider what marriage actually means.
Tyler Perry writes, directs and produces the new film, with Angi Bones and Tony Strickland also serving as producers.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? premieres exclusively on Netflix on September 9, 2026.
