AMC+ and Crave have released the official teaser trailer for YAGA, a dark new mystery thriller that transforms the legend of Baba Yaga into a contemporary tale of disappearance, desire and ancient magic.
The eight-part series follows Rapp, a private investigator played by Noah Reid, who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park, the young heir to a powerful local fishery.
What initially appears to be a conventional missing-person case soon becomes considerably stranger. Rapp finds himself surrounded by enigmatic suspects, hidden relationships and unsettling forces that suggest the town’s secrets may reach far beyond ordinary crime.
His investigation places him at odds with Carson, an apprehensive local detective played by Clark Backo. While both characters are searching for answers, the teaser suggests that suspicion and conflicting loyalties will make cooperation increasingly difficult.
Carrie-Anne Moss stars as Katherine, a charismatic university professor whose fascination with younger men may connect her to the missing heir. Her narration introduces the many contradictory versions of Baba Yaga: a witch, wise woman, enchantress, healer, guide and predator.
Hudson Williams plays Henry Park, whose disappearance lies at the centre of the mystery. Although he is the person everyone appears to be searching for, the teaser offers several provocative glimpses of Henry that raise questions about what happened to him and whether he is truly an innocent victim.
The series draws inspiration from Baba Yaga, the powerful and unpredictable supernatural figure found throughout Slavic folklore. Rather than presenting her simply as an evil witch, YAGA appears interested in the different identities attached to the legend and the fear directed towards women who refuse to fit conventional expectations.
The atmospheric first footage combines police investigation, coastal isolation, ritualistic imagery and sensual fantasy. Chickens, forests, strange symbols and whispered warnings create the impression that ancient folklore is beginning to surface beneath the town’s respectable modern appearance.
The supporting cast includes Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle and Hiro Kanagawa, alongside Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris and Sam Krochmal.
YAGA was created by writer and showrunner Kat Sandler, adapting her acclaimed stage play of the same name. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co-directors, while Carrie-Anne Moss is also among the series’ executive producers.
Blending folklore, noir mystery, horror and darkly playful sexuality, YAGA promises a murder investigation in which every suspect appears to be hiding another life — and the truth may depend on understanding what really makes someone a witch.
The eight-episode series premieres in October 2026 on AMC+ in the United States and Crave in Canada.
