Kerry Washington on Ben Affleck, Animals and Her DWTS Favorites

Kerry Washington may have a new Netflix thriller to promote, but Jimmy Kimmel managed to get her talking about everything from Dancing with the Stars to nights out with the Save the Last Dance cast.

Washington stars opposite Ben Affleck in Animals, a tense crime drama about Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball and his wife Abigail, whose seemingly polished life collapses when their family is hit by a kidnapping. Affleck also directs and co-writes the film, while Washington said working with him gave her a front-row seat to the actor-filmmaker balancing both sides of the production.

Away from kidnapping thrillers, Washington has two very different reasons to keep watching Dancing with the Stars. She’s cheering for Jimmy Kimmel’s longtime sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez — naturally a major favorite inside the Kimmel family — but also for her former Save the Last Dance co-star Julia Stiles.

The interview also brought back memories of the 2001 dance drama, including Washington and her co-stars actually going out clubbing together while making the film. More than two decades later, that connection apparently hasn’t disappeared.

Washington is also juggling Reasonable Doubt, Imperfect Women and her podcast The Street You Grew Up On, but for now Animals puts her back at the center of a particularly messy big-screen marriage.

Animals arrives on Netflix on October 9.
