The Hunchback, Soul of Paris Trailer: Vincent Cassel Becomes Quasimodo
Vincent Cassel transforms into Quasimodo in Netflix's The Hunchback, Soul of Paris, a dark historical thriller blending revolution, forbidden love and a deadly cholera epidemic.
Vincent Cassel brings a darker interpretation of Quasimodo to the screen in the official trailer for The Hunchback, Soul of Paris, Netflix's new French historical thriller inspired by the origins of Victor Hugo's legendary character.
Set in Paris in 1830, the film follows a disfigured stonemason living on the margins of society as political unrest spreads and a deadly cholera epidemic threatens the city.
When authorities discover that he appears to possess an unusual resistance to the disease, Quasimodo becomes the target of a relentless manhunt. A determined doctor hopes to use him for medical experiments that could potentially reveal a cure.
Meanwhile, Quasimodo develops feelings for Agnès, a dancer portrayed by Daphné Patakia. Determined to protect her, he becomes entangled in the revolutionary movement sweeping through Paris.
Karim Leklou plays the security director pursuing Quasimodo, while Benjamin Voisin portrays the doctor seeking to investigate his mysterious condition. The supporting cast includes Noémie Lvovsky and Sébastien Pouderoux.
Directed by Jean-François Richet, known for Plane and Blood Father, the film draws inspiration from a theory suggesting that Hugo's famous character may have been inspired by a real stonemason.
Rather than retelling the familiar story as a musical fantasy, The Hunchback, Soul of Paris explores prejudice, political upheaval, medical ethics and impossible love through a gritty historical setting.
The Hunchback, Soul of Paris premieres globally on Netflix on November 27, 2026.
