The doors to Hogwarts are opening again.
A new trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has arrived, giving us our biggest look yet at the upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter novel.
Dominic McLaughlin steps into the role of Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley — and this time, we get to see much more of their first year at Hogwarts.
The new footage takes us inside the Great Hall for the Sorting Ceremony, onto the Quidditch pitch and through several familiar corners of the wizarding world. There are also new glimpses of John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
But perhaps the most interesting thing about HBO’s version is how much room the television format gives the story to breathe.
The adaptation has promised greater depth and detail than the films could accommodate, and the latest footage already includes moments either barely touched on or completely absent from the 2001 movie. Even Hermione’s journey aboard the Hogwarts Express gets additional attention, while other shots tease new material built around Harry’s life both before and after arriving at Hogwarts.
The first season consists of eight episodes and adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with Francesca Gardiner serving as writer and executive producer. Succession director Mark Mylod is also an executive producer and will direct multiple episodes.
David Heyman, who produced all eight original Harry Potter films, returns as an executive producer on the new series.
HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres Christmas 2026 on HBO and will stream on HBO Max where available.
